A Bit About Us

Since 2001, writers of poetry, prose and fiction have been gathering in Lakeview to read their creations and encourage each other.

They recently published a second anthology:  “Seasons,” featuring 30 writers from around the county. Their first anthology, published in 2007, contained the work of 25 writers. Both projects received grants from the Lake County Cultural Coalition.

The writing group began as Bull Riders and Hang Gliders. “The original people who named it dropped out or moved away,” said Patty Barnhart of Valley Falls. “So the first thing we did when I joined was change the name.”  Besides their publications, the group has hosted open mic nights at local cafes, participated in Lake District Library’s Celebrating Creativity series and conducted a workshop for young writers for the library’s summer program.“It’s totally a support group,” Patty says. “We’re here to provide motivation for those who enjoy writing. We’ve tried to get young people involved and several keep in touch with me and have continued writing.”
